This 1958 Buick Century Convertible is a gorgeous luxury convertible that is absolutely loaded with options! In 1958, Buick's production dipped, and the GM marque slipped to fifth place in the industry having been replaced by another GM brand, Oldsmobile. Nonetheless, the 1958 designs have become some of the most eye-catching Buicks in its history. In fact, Buick's General Manager Edward Ragsdale described the 1958 Buicks as "dazzling" and for fans of chrome, stainless, and overall fifties excess, the word "dazzling" is most fitting. Up front, the most striking change occurred to the "drawer pull" grille that was made up of 160 floating chrome squares. The most iconic design element of the '58 Buicks is most visible from the side profile, that being, the bright sweepspear that runs down the rear quarter panels on each side of the car. The other major change occurring to the sides of the '58 Buick was the removal of the ventiports holes that had been a part of Buick's designs since its 1949 models. At the tail of the 1958 Buicks, a new-look rear chrome bumper was added that happened to be the largest in the industry at the time. In 1958, Buick offered five distinct series, starting with the entry-level Special and culminating with the top-of-the-line Limited series. The intermediate level '58 Buicks, consisted of the Century, Super, and Roadmaster series. While the Super only was offered in two body styles, both the Century and Roadmaster featured a greater variety of body styles including convertible models. The Century sported numerous factory standard options including Dynaflow Automatic transmissions, full wheelcovers, padded dashes, and clocks, among other items. Sitting atop the Century hierarchy was the convertible models that were also equipped with power windows and power front seats. In total, only 2,558 Century Convertibles were produced in 1958, which makes this particular example quite a rare piece of automotive history. Under the hood is a 364 Cubic Inch "Nailhead" V8 engine fed by an upgraded single 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor. The 364 Nailhead V8 is backed by a Dynaflow Automatic Transmission that makes this classic Buick a breeze for just about anybody to drive. Exhaust exits through this '58 Buick's through-bumper exhaust setup that generates a nice throaty sound out of the rear. This 1958 Buick Convertible is absolutely loaded with options! With power steering, maneuvering this 4,000+ pound convertible in and out of a tight parking space at the local drive-in or car show is seemingly effortless. Power brakes are another welcome addition on this '58 Buick Century since it simplifies bringing the car to complete stop. You'll be able to stay cool even on the hottest summer days because this 1958 Century Convertible is outfitted with air conditioning. The white vinyl power convertible top is in excellent condition and goes up and down with ease with the simple flick of a switch. Riding on a set of wide whitewall radial tires on chrome wire wheels, this '58 Buick has a fantastic look and even better ride. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this Buick Century is in fantastic condition as well. The exterior has been refinished in a gorgeous Blue Mist that completes the exterior look of the car. The interior of this 1958 Buick Century Convertible is absolutely stunning! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in a tri-tone color scheme consisting of two-tone blue vinyl with blue patterned cloth inserts. The two-tone blue and chrome padded dash, upholstered door panels, blue carpeting, and steering wheel are all in fantastic condition and appear to be in their stock configuration. The instrument cluster is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, amp gauge, and gasoline gauge. The dash is finished with a push-button AM radio in the center and under-dash A/C unit, along with a locking glovebox and clock. This Buick Century also is equipped with power windows and a power front bench seat, both of which are rarely seen on convertibles of this vintage. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or adding to an existing collection of vintage automobiles, this 1958 Buick Century Convertible would make an excellent choice.
