    EXTREMELY RARE DEINARI SPOON
***The only similar spoon found online is displayed at the British Museum!
Silver plate (not gilded, unlike spoon on display at British Museum) Spoon with duck handle. Large spoons furnished with short, coiled or recurved handles terminating in the head or a duck or swan are a standard late Roman type design. Decoration in the bowl depicting a Triton and a dolphin. He is blowing a horn which he holds in his right hand, and has a steering-oar in his left. There is a dolphin in front of him and a rosette behind. In the bowl is the inscription DEINARI, meaning (property) of the god Narius. Bowl is slightly oval with a slightly pointed tip. BMP marking is found on the coiled handle which may suggest this has been crafted by an Italian jeweler.
