Portuguese Palissy Majolica Pottery Basket Jar with Lid

Description

Gorgeous handmade Portuguese Majolica Palissy style clay lidded jar for horseradish, mustard, herbs or preserves.  What a little jewel!  This handmade and painted clay basket shaped lidded jar sits upon a layered bed of radish leaves that is adorned with red and white baby radish.  Glazed in red, green, white and brown with a little red radish finial. The clay on the underside is impressed with Made in Portugal on both sides of the piece and is a lovely representation of the Palissy majolica ware found in the town of Caldas Da Rainha.
Jar measures 6-3/4" L x 4-3/4" W x 4-1/2" H.
CONDITION:  Excellent vintage condition.  Underside of piece has clay bubbles as shown in the photos
