Description

Rare late 19th Century Guatemalan, majolica Montiel Family Pottery Bowl.
Four generations of the Montiel family produced majolica in Antigua during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
As referenced in the book by Marion Oettinger "Folk Art of Spain and the Americas".
Montiel Pottery is highly collectible and coveted by collectors
This is a rare pattern with yellow flowers
This type of bowl is frequently referred to as a cofradia bowl, since they were used by the church co-fraternity for festive occasions.
Measures about 8.5" D x 2.5" H
Condition and wear is consistent with age and use. Glaze crazing from age, no breaks, no repairs. There is a small chip on the underside of the rim and small glaze lift that hasn't separated (see photos).  It is a solid piece in really amazing condition.
the green and yellow flower design is nice and vibrant still.
