Description
I am not an expert on collectable spoons, however I feel that this example is exceptional and above average. I cherry picked it years ago from an old collection that made it's way to a local antique store in New England. The picture stamped into the spoon looks like 16'th century soldiers carrying various weapons, such as swords & spears.
I count seven heads. Some of the men have helmets, others with hats. On the handle is a glued on stone (possibly ceramic) with a windmill that let's me assume that the piece is Dutch, possibly from Holland. The metal is heavy and has the appearance of an old nickel. Perhaps plated with some silver content. The spoon has great form & detail. You can even see the seams in the floor boards where the men are standing.
On the back is a makers mark
that is difficult to make out. Looks like a six sided area to the left possibly with a bent arm. The larger mark is elongated. Using a magnifying glass & my 8x loupe I can't be sure which way to turn it. Length is 5-1/4". Condition is very good.
