    Description

You are bidding on the  sake cup shown in the photos. It's approx. 3 inches across. The photos are of the actual cup you're bidding on, so please look at them closely for condition.
This style of cherry blossom sake cup (cherry blossoms were used as a symbol by the military in many instances because the cherry blossom dies at the height of its beauty) that was used before kamikaze pilots departed on their missions (along with a rarer Mt. Fuji cup since it represents the heart of Japan). These ceremonies were not big celebrations, but simple ceremonies and they used an appropriate sake cup available at the time which this style was. While it's highly unlikely that this actual cup was used in a kamikaze departure
    ceremony
, it does date from that time period and is the style that was used.
