Vintage Coke Cola Soda Vending Machine Bar Can Mounted Opener
When I was told this was for opening cans of coke in the 40’s I was a bit unbelieving of the story. How ever after a bit of research I’m not unbelieving anymore.
In Solomon's Md there was a huge Navy base where they worked out the details of landing troops on beaches. Lot of troops and Military folks around and because of breakage of coke bottles, it was shipped to troops in cans. A woman who worked on the base ran the lunch counter and served troops cokes from a can using this very opener that came from coke. She also said a few machines around the base had these attached to them. The original ones it seems came in a raw pot cast metal finish and later ones had a hard red covering that soon cracked and peeled off.
After the war her brother bought all the kitchen equipment and opened a bar in St Mary’s county where the opener served double duty opening
cans of soda and beer
